Especially when you said "And it is near impossible to get out from under it. The ultimate monopoly. The people terrorize themselves."

Of course, the same could be said about EVERY system of government at some time in its existence; has happened a couple of times here: McCarthy and the Red Scare of the '50s; Dubya, the Republicongress and the Judges.

I like your ideas about how we could, and should, involve both private and public entities in this. I would add that both sides should be subject to an annual review --- by an independent body made up of openly elected individuals --- which would determine whether it was necessary to raise or lower pricing, how and where the infrastructure should be upgraded and/or expanded, etc.
