Nope, the crux of the problem REALLY is ...
... that rich people run government, and any time someone has an idea to redistribute the wealth, the PAC's and lobbyists and rich bureaucrats gang together to snuff it out.

So what you wind up with is a couple of factions, BOTH of which are rich, fighting over how to overcharge all the rest of us. The consumer loses out, the rich get richer ... and life goes on.
