I have very little argument with one point HOWEVER
"keep in mind that as a business traveler, I look for the hotels, locations, etc. that have high speed access, and for FREE."

No problem there but remeber your free access is included in your hotel price. Which brings me to

"I don't want to pay a fee to use someone else's WLAN."

Neither do I and that is why I oppose city gov. creating Wifi access that I will never use. I live around Houston. Houson consists of 600 yes I said 600 square miles of land space. I never go into the city proper for business that requires internet access. If Houston created WiFi for the city they would as other cities TAX all people outside of the city to provide the "free service". That as we say in the rodeo is Bull cahcah. It is theft in the first degree whether the voters vote for it or not. Someone is paying for the service through taxes. What really burns me more is that to establish the systems the taxpayers have to pay for it and just watch when the city has to start charging fees for access or raise taxes to maintain the system. That may young friend is how the government works.

I'm sure if you and I met we probably would enjoy telling lies and drinking a few drinks together but I still do not want to pay for your free access simply because you come to the city. Just as my hotel analogy the word free is a lie. The copst of your internet access is just buried in the cost of the room. I am not paying for your room either.

"It makes a difference when these ISP's are charging $5-$10 per DAY in a hotel."

I drove trucks for years and right before I quit driving the Flying J truck stop cahin rolled out Wifi nationwide at their stores. I subscribed and you can bet I did not stop anywhere else to get fuel, eat. shower and conduct my online work. I understand what you are saying.
