Verizon hates it.
Verizon lobbied hard to try to prevent Philly from building the service. Tried to get measures passed to make sure Verizon got first crack at offering wireless broadband to communities. And it succeeded. But it was at a compromise that Philly and any location that rolls out deployment before the end of 06 do not have to offer Verizon first shot at serving people in that area.

Perhaps Philly does need a reality check. And perhaps there are many obsticles to overcome. But I personally think it is a valueable and beneficial effort. Personally, I'd rather have fiber to the house though. grin
