Wi-Fi and WiMAX
In my opinion WiMAX is the most promising technology this year.

Definitely WiMax, could drastically change the way consumers and businesses access the Internet.

The next wave of personal productivity at work is about mobility, with people wanting to get access anywhere.

Wi-Fi & WiMAX >
They're critical because they're technologies that can be manufactured at low cost and can be connected at high speed

WiMAX it's an extension of Wi-Fi. WiMax is about broadband to the home. It can also be used as a backhaul for Wi-Fi hotspots. But it won't replace Wi-Fi. Your home will have Wi-Fi in it, and you will have the option to use WiMax connect to the Internet.

The biggest difference between WiMax and Wi-Fi is that the WiMax standard offers much faster data speeds and wider coverage. A typical Wi-Fi hot spot covers a small area such as an office or storefront, while a WiMax station should be able to provide access to the Internet over a range of 30 miles.
