WiMAX will beat cable/dsl in any market.
The simple fact is, people want to be mobile and you can't do that with wires or fiber.

Can a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) beat the current delivery paradigm and those providing it? You bet. Ask anyone you know, "would you prefer to be completely mobile or tied to a wall"? We know what the majority will say.

I say WiMAX will be the most disruptive shift in communications since the leap from telegraph to telephone. "People" by way of their local government's are taking things into their own hands and it has the telcos/cable folks scared to death. Face it, they aren't suing the towns and cities because they have nothing else to do. They are trying to do EVERYTHING to keep it from happening.

Think about it, is it better to constanly rip up streets, sidewalks, move telephone polls where needed, run new wire/fiber, etc., etc. or does it make more sense to replace the "radio" on both ends and not go through the expense? Do you really think the telcos/cable can be cost competitive with that disadvantage? I don't.

WiMAX already provides vastly wider bandwidth than most current home offerings and like anything in computing, that will only go up with newer standard versions of the specification.

Of course when the WISP providers use WiMAX to change the market will be the very thing that eventually takes them out of it. The biggest selling point to WiMAX is that it is being designed to work as a huge mesh. That means all the connections can relay through all the other connections in their "radio" range. This range is several miles right now and will increase over time.

That means at some point the mesh becomes the delivery method. All a person will need do is buy the hardware (if it's not built in to his PC) and they are connected to the net. While some may disagree, I see abolutely nothing that will stop this paradigm shift in both the market and how we manage this market.

The Telco/cable law suits may in fact be 100% legit and correct in that they can't compete in the delivery market against what users want...
