WiMAX is the basis for 4G cellular (telecom).

Here is where things are going (4G wireless):

WiMAX is just a carrier (also does last mile via RF). VoIP is just translating voice data (analog) to a binary representation and using IP as the carrier for addressing. This si all just telecommunications, nothing more. This is nothing more than an evolution.
