RE: Readers Misled
Really! You happen to know this for a fact because... Why? Perhaps you are a rep for one of the ILECs or one of the cable providers? Or maybe you are an installer for one of these companies? Or maybe you're just really well informed?

How exactly to you KNOW that this is not true. Please enlighten us. I'd love to know how YOU know this. And please, be specific. No vague answers or "I just know". If that's all you've got, then don't bother responding. If you've got a real response, then I'm dying to be educated.

I'm not sure where I stand on this issue, but I'm all for local governments exploring ways to attract residents and businesses back into the neighborhoods to bring back a stable tax base and clean out the blight. Or even just fill up those empty storefronts and homes/apartments.

And I'm sick of the telcos and cable companies making promises that they don't keep. ANY competition is a good thing. Even if the government has to provide it. Do you think we'd be seeing Longhorn anytime soon (not to mention IE7) if it weren't for the competition brought by Linux? Maybe it's not the OS to solve all ills, but it's good enough to scare MS and maybe that's what the telcos and cable companies need as well. Something that's good enough to put a good scare into them and kick them in the butt.

If Philadelphia can pull this off and not lose money, then whether they make any or not, the telcos and cable companies will sit up and take notice. I think it also makes sense for city governments to share information so you don't end up re-inventing the wheel. And it's about time that city government at least TRIED to do something for it's citizens and do it right.

Anyone have a problem with that?
