They're purposely rushing this in order to try to ramrod it through before it gets too much public debate. Once the system's in place it'll be too late for good. It's insane the a technology that stands to erode our freedom probably more than anything else is getting so little attention. And the vast silence on the part of officials and corporations should speak volumes in itself.
But you got it right about the Republicans: they no longer follow any of their original ideals, and have thus become something else. This is why I no longer support them. Unfortunately the average boner off the street is so dumb and easily hoodwinked, all the Republicans have to do is merely say something and most people believe them. So they just pass legislation like no child left behind or the clean air or patriot act, and most losers take the title of the legislation at its word.
