To sum it up, you are basically stating that you think hardware and software should be perfect. This is not possible.

Its not necessary either. There are millions of computers (running unix, linux, mac, windows, etc...) that work properly for years at a time without all the problems you speak of. The reason being that competent people manage these machines and software.

What software companies need to do is figure out a way to update/fix the software without having to involve clueless end users.

You couldn't blame GM for a car accident you got into because you ignored a recall notice. You couldn't blame a drug company for getting sick because you decided you didn't need to follow the recommended dosage.

Yet people use computers all the time without educating themselves and then want to blame Microsoft because their PC is infected with a virus that takes advantage of a vulnerability that was patched 2 years ago. What cracks me up is these are the same people who have no problem chaning the oil in their car exactly every 3000 miles.

BTW, RealPlayer is on my top 20 list of "Worst Software Ever".
