Wire wheels are too much trouble; just drill it.
Wire wheels are too much trouble. Don't bother
disassemblingthe drive and chuckin up a wire
wheel in your drill. Instead, just chuck up a
drill and drill a few good-sized holes through
the drive in the area of the platters.

A platter with a hole in it is sure to rip the
disk heads off of their tiny little suspensions,
rendering any attempt to read the platter fatal
to the reading mechanism.

For best results, drill your holes near the
"landing areas" (inner tracks) of the platters
(but not so close that you're in the area where
the platters are clamped together). It would be
a very rare mechanism indeed that doesn't begin
with the heads in that area.
