Nope Nope and hunh uh
My tech guy and I, damn now I sound like Mike Cox, like to tinker. We will buy hardrives at auctions, markets etc. The gen public "thinks" formating will keep the info safe. Nope. We have tested that idea of yours just out of boredom by formating 4 or 5 times and have always been able to pull up files.

There are sevral good wiping utilities out there both free and cost so there is no reason why a person should not wipe their hardrives clean. The best way to protect data when getting rid of machine is either shredding the hardrive or take the thing apart, beat the parts with a sledgehammer until it is totaly unrecognizable. The second method is great for cardio vascular workout.

On the other side of the coin there are several free data recovery softwares out there also. To say you would not believe what I have pulled off reformated hard drives is an understatement. I bought several school machines that were wiped. We found Soc Sec numbers, addresses phone numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, some pictures that would make you hot for teacher and some not. Get it? Got it? Good.
