I've played
Yessir I played for 17 weeks in a college course, on Unix? Had a wonderful time doing it too. Intending to further my education in the Unix field to Network Administration, I opted for Solaris 9.0 primarily, but much of the course study demanded operations in Red Hat. Primary cause and reason for running a dual boot system was indicated by the professor, so that when you crashed them you had one extra chance before having to beg him to take the time to reload them.

Do I consider myself lucky? Yeah as a matter of fact I do, I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Did I do well in the class? Yep! Carried the highest grade in the class, throughout the entire 17 weeks, finished second highest grade in the class, because I forgot to turn all of my tests throughout the course back in to get the 10 point bonus for return of study material. I made full benefit of every other opportunity to partake of extra credit, studied my ass off, and did everything the hard way... Command Line Programming in Solaris.

Did I try the GUI in Red Hat? Yep, I sure did! Found it quite interesting too. And, for the most part user friendly.

Do I use Linux\Unix at home? Nope, I don't!!

Why? Because I find Microsoft much easier to use, and with proper security mesures installed just as dependable.

Have I ever had a virus on my system? Yes I have. Reloaded the system. Didn't find it difficult at all, although trying to download updates, and such was time consuming on dial-up.

Did I find it easier than Linux/Unix? Yep... I sure did! Install CD, click a button, sit back and have coffee. No typing commands to tar this, or tell it where to store the file. Just put the CD in and let it do its thing!

And, now that you mention it, no I never did defrag my Unix drive, and I truly have to wonder how big a mess it is!!
