Of COURSE the AV vendors will say that!
They are invariably trying to fleece more $$ out of uninformed Mac Newbies who don't realize that they don't need AV protection ...

EVERY story about an alleged Mac virus that I have read has turned out to say [if you read far enough] 'it's POSSIBLE' or 'it COULD', rather than they HAVE ACTUALLY FOUND SUCH A VIRUS 'IN THE WILD'.

Rocky, from reading a number of your posts here, IMO you assume that the ONLY REASON almost all of the malware actvity on the 'net is directed toward Windoze [and not at any of the *NIX variants] is b/c of market share.

I assert that the REAL reason for this is that Windoze is so much EASIER TO EXPLOIT than any *NIX b/c of the many poor design decisions that MS has made over the years [that have favored ease-of-use at the expense of security again and again, despite warnings from knowledgable analysts and solid evidence that this was not such a good idea].
