Common Sense!
In other words what you're saying is that Linux has the same inevitable flaw that affects the Windows Operating systems.... User Error! Because without that, the zip file wouldn't be opened, and the virus wouldn't propogate in Windows either.

The reason the Microsoft system is attacked so frequently is because the virus writers depend on the lack of knowledge of the average computer user to serve their purpose. Likewise, they realize that the average computer user simply isn't knowledgable enough about computer systems and languages, to run Linux, so they aren't as apt to make any headway there.

The fact that the majority of all PCs in the world run Microsoft, because it user friendly, makes it very attractive to virus writers because their odds of rapid propogation are far better given the numbers also. I mean let's face it, what good is a virus that doesn't spread rapidly, the Anti-Virus companies get a whiff of it and it's toast in a day now anyhow. Thus you have a very limited window of opportunity to attack a system, and if you were attacking Linux boxes, you wouldn't make a great deal of headway in a day.

As you state, "The best safeguard is common sense!" I don't give a damn what operating system you run, it does have weaknesses, it does have flaws, and it can be attacked if you don't use common sense.
