HOSTS file is a UNIX standard
I appreciate your being skepical and all, but this would affect ALL internet access, regardless of which browser was used.
The HOSTS file is a UNIX standard and all internet systems are built upon those original DARPA standards.
This is broswer independent, and any browser not using a hosts file would be non-standard.
