I agree that public IM network are a threat and very high percentage of people and companies are using it. A private IM network does solve the problem as you have your own server (IP, port) and the client program which works with it. I am using AM Messenger at my work place and it is doing fine from past 3 years. Private IM network are solution to such threats.
