Makes no sense for you to go after this thing
with virtually no tech skills. I doubt seriously
if this was a virus ( I'm a tech with 40+ years
experience ). That blinking underscore tells
me that the system is waiting for the hard drive
to respond, and it is not being detected. Usually
that is a drive that did not spin up. Sometimes
a quick fix is to lift one corner of the PC about
an inch and drop it. Many times that will free up
the stuck bearings, and the drive will spin up,
and the system will boot normally. If indeed that
is the case, do not turn off that machine until
you have copied off your working files, docs,
pictures, etc. DELL will have you look at the
BIOS to see if the hard drive is detected. If
not, then try to get it to spin up, and if that
does not work .. head to a PC shop near you.
Ask them to slave the drive and see if they can
get your files before they replace the drive
with a new one. Costs a bit, but it is only
money happy
