I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but
since it's clearly spreading nonsense, lets just set the record straight. For example, here's how you install/uninstall MICROSOFT Office on a Mac vs. a Windows box:

Installation:

Mac: Insert CD. When CD mounts and CD icon appears on desktop, double click to open it. Click and hold and drag the Microsoft Office icon from the CD to your desktop (or whatever folder you want it in). Wait for it to copy. Done.

Windows: Insert CD. Hopefully it autostarts (sometimes does sometimes doesn't). If not, use Win Explorer to find CD drive, double click to open it, find the likely program to run (usually "start.exe"), and double click that to execute.

Installation Wizard/program starts. Be sure and close all other applications so you don't have a .dll conflict since it wants to update stuff in the System/System32 directories amongst others.

Answer various screens of questions including the directory you want to install in, enter the number off the CD, answer specifics about this and that (I haven't installed it in awhile, but there's several screens as you well know), pick standard or custom install, and, if installing Pro, and you want Access to be worth anything, be sure and specify custom and go in and include "Unmatched Query" since it's not installed by default, [repeat this for all the features that MS does/doesn't think that you will need or that you will that you definitely won't]. Or, be prepared to go back and do some more installing later. Sigh. Okay, finally, now you've answered all the questions, click "Next" or "Finish" or whatever, let it copy/uncompress everything. Wait while your Windows CPU usage hits 90%+ as the disk/CD I/O is going on. Okay, now it's installed, oh, no wait, you gotta reboot. Okay, now it's installed.

Removal:

Mac: Drag the Microsoft Office folder to the trash can. Purge the trashcan to completely remove from your system.

Windows: Start/Settings/Control Panel. Oh, Windows turned your "icon" view back into the "detail" view again for no apparenty rhyme or reason. Change it back.

Double click on "Add/Remove Programs". Wait a while Windows figures out what it's got installed on itself. Okay, there's the list.

Select Microsoft Office, click the "Remove" button. Uninstall wizard starts. Let's answer some more questions, e.g. Warning: "abcdefg.dll" is a system program, are you sure you want to remove it? Leaving it won't hurt anything, but if you remove it, it may prevent other programs from running. Answer Yes / Yes All / No / No All.

Okay, you're not a MSCE, do you remove it or not? Of course, one would wonder why the PEOPLE THAT WROTE THE O/S AND THE APPLICATION NEED YOU THE USER TO DECIDE THIS? Talk about lame. Anyway, go through this BS for every possible program, or just give up and answer "Yes All" or "No All" depending on your risk tolerance. If you answer wrong, be prepared to reinstall something or just suffer from mysterious, untraceable system anomalies.

Ops!!!! The uninstall was INCOMPLETE! Why? Who knows, you're barely given any information and it's of little use to a regular user if you are. Gosh, a little drilling down via whatever prompts it gives you (if any) reveals it couldn't delete the installation directory. Why not? Who knows, they never say why, probably since there's no rational reason why. Deal with the trash it "wasn't able to remove from your system" if you feel like it, or just let the clutter build up if you don't. Don't worry, the next uninstall you do will act similarly.

Oh, don't forget the mandatory reboot, or Windows won't know that the app is really, really gone.

Hope (pray?) your registry didn't get horked up in the process.

* * * * * *

Which would you chose?

Not that this is going to change the minds of the zealots, but at least everyone else who doesn't have blinders on can see the difference.
