i think the ?You can?t F**king touch me! HAHAHA!? approach actually tells more hackers to try. but the paying for it, hell, look at distributed.net where they offer an award to whomever's computer cracks the current encryption method. the screensavers on zdtv had a macox and windows xp on published ips broadcast over the show and they invited the hackers to try to knock both systems down and wanted to see which one would fall first. someone rebooted the windowsxp box after like a day or something.
