Let me see if I have this straight
1. There is 1 worm with 12 variations. I wonder how many of the millions of trojans/worms/viruses that ABMers love bringing up are exactly the same thing with a slightly different subject/payload?

2. A user has to open the mail, save the attachment to disk, find the attachment on disk, double click on it, accept the warning that this file was downloaded from the internet and could be something bad, and then they get infected. The fact that some people are getting hit by this tells me that I, as a Linux proponent, do NOT want Linux to ever gain in popularity. Let's keep these people as far away from Linux/OSX as possible!

3. Computers on the local network are also vulnerable unless they have a patch that was issued April 13, 2004.

PS For those of you that think Administrator access is required for this, you are sadly mistaken. The "back door" is "installed" by opening a connection to an IRC channel and listening for commands. Although running as a restricted user could limit system damage, nothing about the techniques used by this worm requires admin/root access. About the only thing that would save you is a firewall with outbound ports closed off which probably isn't a bad thing to have on ANY OS. You could also prevent restricted users from running ANY program not installed by root/admin although this isn't the default on ANY home OS that I know of.

Flame away NBMers!
