Now, the origin of the phrase "my two cents" is ...
... from the game of poker, and was originally "my two bits." It refers to an ante, and so if I'M putting MY "two cents" in then I'M spending the money to stay in the game; nothing is coming from YOU.

Let me take out my Colt here, pardner, and ask ya: "You tryin' to scoop up the pot before showin' yer cards, Hombre?" silly
