Agreed - with emphasis on bad implementation of new features
I agree, but I would like to emphasize the point that poorly implemented new "features" are to blame. I (and most other programmers) could see this coming a mile away when I learned that Microsoft was essentially putting an entire programming language (visual basic) into Word. I still think it was the worst decision Microsoft ever made. They should've written their own scripting language from the ground up, and written it to be secure.

Unfortunately, they didn't. They tacked VB into Word and called it a "feature" - nevermind that nobody really needs all the funcionality of VB in Word, and it made stuff like Melissa possible.

They also made similar mistakes in Outlook, which to this day is the least secure email program on the planet. I would never recommend Outlook to anybody (except maybe my enemies, but even then that's being pretty cruel).
