As a Linux advocate, I think I can answer that. Apple OSX, the operating system, is based on BSD. The os itself was very secure when Apple adopted it. It became at that time probably the best user experience available, provided you were willing to pay the price. And I am not just talking about money. Apple has followed MS lead in updating only for the current os. Fortuntely, this problem does not exist to nearly that extent in Linux.
