Can we have the statistics please?
Lots of figures used by many people dont't make things much clearer to me. If you hear that 80 percent of the computers affected by malocious software is running windows, it would be nice to know what percentage of all computers are running windows. Would that be 80, then windows is exactly as vulnerable as any other OS.

Now I don't know these numbers, but i think it does make sense that an OS that runs on a majority of computers is more attractive for a virus-writer then an obscure OS that runs on only ten pc's worldwide.

When most of the efforts are focussed on one OS, it is also likely that the knowledge and skills to vulnrerate that OS will progress more rapidly.

Microsoft is a money making machine before anything else. I think therefore they have let things come so far and I don't know if at this time security does have the appropriate attention in the higher regions of MS.
Security sells, so I guess they are doing at least something, but it is also likely that the focus lies on safety-marketing rather then on safety-engineering.

A great deal of the success of Windows is grace to the ease of obtaining illegal copies of sofware. Making the Windows-community a bunch of crooks themselves. And the greed of the Windows users make spreading of virusses and trojans so easy. I bet at least 75% of all virusses is activated by a link that is tagged with the word 'free'.

I am driving a car with flaws. But it takes me where I want to go. I don't have to do any engineering myself, I let the garage install a security pack and do some praying. It works. I know people who drive better cars. Expensive cars with expensive timber, like Macs. I also know someone driving a Linux. He is spending a lot of time in the garage.

There isn't much choice really. And there isn't too much danger. As long as you don't want it all to be free.
