Social engineering
Whatever is enough security, the software protections have been improving, including SP 2 and the anti-spyware programs and (magnanimously) FireFox.

Doesn't make much difference, though.
Rather than fight a war of technology, the scammers have decided to rely on their easiest target: the user. No way to download a patch, even if you could write one.

I've seen a couple of good phishing emails. If they were sent to the email address I use only for business transactions and if they concerned accounts I actually had and if the issue discussed in the email had seemed remotely possible, I might have been fooled into clicking rather than telephoning. But probably not.

I expect many people are not so exacting.

So here's to the social engineers. I wonder if they ever realize that being as effective in honest mailings would make them rich, but probably not. For some people, earning an honest living is impossible, and not all of them can work for IBM.
