People that do this sort of thing, when caught, should be hanged in the town square. Then stuffed with candy and used as pinatas.

Also, as annoying as the gov't can be about certain (ok, most...) things, I don't see how it is their fault that most places are just too damn lazy to come up with their own identification scheme. It would be nice if inappropriately asking for an SSn was a federal offense, though.
