Another way to look at it
You have an air-borne virus that turn people into zombies. The virus is spread through close contact (sneezing, shaking hands, etc.). Do you release the virus in downtown Tokyo or in Nunavut? The Nunavut virus will infect 5000 people and then die out.

The problem with Linux trojans/worms/viruses isn't so much getting it on the machine (trojans would be particularly easy), the problem is getting it to propogate. With so few computer naive people running Linux at home, mail borne malware (the #1 infection vector on Windows computers) is just not very effective. The malware dies out too quickly before it finds another willing host.
