What a bunch of crap!!!

Of course the presidents of these companies are against new laws. Like the other post, I don't see how the sale of SS#'s benefits the consumer. Anyone who wants a credit card, mortgage, etc. can contact the appropriate company and get one. This kind of stuff actually hurts the consumer when businesses and others penalize consumers based on perceived character flaws (i.e., you credit is bad so you must be irresponsible, or desperate and likely to steal or commit insurance fraud). My employer shouldn't care about my credit score. More importantly, my employer and anyone else should not know that information unless I give it to them. A law restricting the sale of personal information may cut down on identity theft. And, there wouldn't be hundreds of pre-approved credit card offers filling your mail box and enabling ID thieves. As long as the 'global economy' remains the main focus of government, this and many other exploits will continue.
