One good thing about this is that one or a few thieves can only use so much data. Each time you set up a dummy ID - you take a (small) chance that you will get caught. The 145,000th person on the list will probably NOT experience identity theft.
When I found out the someone had changed my permanent address, I was surprised that nothing else had been done to my ID. I figure I was in the batch of IDs that were stolen from FORD Credit a few years back. The thieves must have changed a bunch of addresses - but never got around to taking out lines of credit on me.
