Information collection must be regulated

Too many companies collect personal information "on the sly". I am refering to adware and spyware. These "tools" are used to steal personal information without the consent of the individual. The regulation of collection and distribution of personal information does need strict regulation.

I feel that the use of adware and spyware should fall into the same category of wire-tapping. Anyone that utilizes such information gathering tools without court authority should face prison and stiff fines.

My personal information is not fair game. When I find that some asshat has made an attempt to gather any type of information without my permission, I tend to take an action to make the collection of that information more expensive than it is worth.
