If not the root servers, then I can't imagine what he was referring to....

The problem with DNS is that it's based on BIND, which has an inherent problem, namely, that it was great when it was written, but it doesn't scale - certainly not to the degree necessary for today's net.

As for writing that utility, just make sure that you do your check against an authoritative source, and don't use DNS to do the "whois". happy
