Interesting concept... LOCAL DNS.
Tho he was joking, there is no technical reason that you could not build your own list of DNS->IP translations.

Then you could ask the real DNS for what it thought and if the answer was different than your copy it could flag it when it changed - especially for sites that mattered to you.

Plus, if the DNS server became unavailable you could still browse all the addresses you had that were current.

PLUS, you could checksum the database and subsets of the database and if the checksum for the section the address was in had not changed then you wouldn't have to hit the DNS saving bandwidth.

Given the growth of the internet it seems a bit odd we keep relying on is it 10? dns servers when it could be massively distributed.
