ChoicePoint., BOA and now this
Isn't funny how many of us in the tech industry have said that security is job one? That protecting data, both electronically and physically, are part of an overall security policy? Many of you hwo have posted here have. Such sound thinking came from all spectrums; MS, Apple, UNIX and Linux fans can all agree that we want our data to be treated with respect and privacy. Instead, what do we get?

ChoicePoint gets conned the old fashioned way in its desire to sell your and my information to the highest bidder with apparently little scrutiny of who is buying the data.

BOA loses an estimated 1.2 million credit records on Amercians that were on a backup tape in some airport somewhere.

Phising attacks on legitimate banking customers of major US Banks, ebay customers and paypal hacks.

The US State Dept is not encrypting personal and biometric information on new passports so anyone with a reader up to 30 feet away using currently available technology can read ALL your information. OK if it is a border crossing official, not OK if it is some crook standing on the other side of the border. RFID readers are quite compact too. But what the heck, you wrap it it aluminum foil...

Your gov't can collect data on you, investigate you, and jail anyone who tells you about it. You may not be allowed to defend yourself if you do not the "evidence" being used against you.

Land of the free?

More like the land of the fleeced consumer sheep.
