You are absolutely correct. However, the vast majority of MS Windows users are totally clueless when it comes to supporting their PC. If they knew how to protect their data they would also know how to avoid most spyware and virues without resorting to additional software.

I've been managing computers since DOS 3.3, running Windows since the beginning, and have never been infected with spyware or viruses despite the fact that I never run antivirus or antispyware.

How? Never connect a Windows computer directly to the Internet (always use tight firewalls), never use IE or Outlook/Outlook Express, and follow some common sense rules of where to go, and what to download.

But you, I, and others like us are in the minority. Our machines are in the 10% of Windows computers in the world that are not totally eat up with viruses and spyware.

If I sold a product that was so defective that it failed to run properly for 90% of my customers I would have the pride to fix it. I wish MS felt the same.
