Not so simple...
Any of the browsers available today are not simple, and certainly IE is more complex (I am not saying better) than Mozilla (which would be one reasons why there are more bugs reported). I would think that IE pushes 500k-750k lines of code if you count much of the support DLL's etc that go with it. That is a hell of a lot of code to keep free of bugs (in fact probably impossible)

There are also more users of IE (another reason why there are more bugs reported).

The reason that Mozilla doesnt have the bug is that it is a completely different piece of software, so its bugs (and it will have them) will be in different places.

MS does have some of the best software developers in the world (I don't work for them by the way), and they probably also have some bad ones. However, you can be the best SW guy in the world, and you can still miss something like this reported bug. This is so obscure that I am not surprised (as a SW engineer of 15 years experience on many different systems) it wasnt detected by MS' test procedures, or even thought of by the guy who wrote that particular part of the code.

I would think that this bug or something similar has been in the code for some time, and only now has it come to light.

There is no such thing as a bug free piece of SW when you get to apps of this size. All any company can do it test as much as they can, then fix problems when they arise as soon as they can. Which appears to be what MS are doing.

You can have as much money as God, but you still won't get a 'perfect' piece of SW.
