Very poor website planning
What where they thinking?

Only an IDIOT would make a system like that. You don't send out links to people with SEQUENTIAL numbers. An average teen could hack a system like that.

Come on now. I get id# 112233, so what is the next possible number? 112234.

If they actually hired a web company to make that site in coldfusion, then THAT web company should be sued. If they tried to do it themselves, well then, they should have hired a professional web design company.

Lesson of today? Go with the pros. If you get it done right the first time you don't have these kinds of problems. Even an amature web design company can tell you sequential numbers is a BAD idea.

The stupidity of corps today. You know they probaby did this cheap site to save money, and NOW how much are they going to pay in lawsuits & legal fees?

You can bet there is going to be some. Look at choice point. Considering the cali AG is likely going to be looking into their case Friday they had better get their act together.

LAWMAKERS: Just another good reason why we need a fedral law requiring companies to notify if personal information is leaked at all.

Do you think people beyond cali were notified? I can guarantee not.

This is 2 companies is only a few weeks. How many more do you think there are? You wonder why identity theft is GROWING.

Because you have corporations how don't give a crap about security and protecting data. Their "protection" is simply making sure the check clears for the person requesting the data.
