A broadcast worm - fasinating
"The research determined that an attacker doesn't have to
individually address computers on the network, but can
broadcast an attack."

Given the amazing speed of Slammer, how fast could a
broadcast worm spread? Worm innovation is certainly in the
windows domain.

"However, the company warned that the workarounds that
Microsoft had previously specified in its bulletins will not
protect against an attack via UDP packets. Such data also
can be configured in such a way to bypass most firewalls. "

Seriously? What the windows built-in firewall doesn't filter
UDP packets? Or should it be read that most firewalls under
windows don't filter UDP (bizarre). Years into trustworthy
computing this simply could not be true;-)

And to think they stole their networking stack from BSD
*nix (obviously overlooking some essential areas).
