Only a slight deterrent...
With so many sly tricks used by some hackers it is sometimes difficult for an experianced programer to identify spam, hacks, and other trash mails that can and sometimes harrase home and corporate systems.
If you are so good at identifying these type of messages you should be extremely wealty from the rewards you have collected on some of the most notorious program writters who have wrecked havoc on the internet.
Remeber for every method identified another method is created to work around the block. the greates disadvantage is that all internet traffic requires a ping to identify itself when connected and certain programs generate random piongs to spread their programs through e-mail and other programs. Every system leaves an open port to accept these pings so they can be identified. When a spoof DNS is returned with a complete script it is hard to block or stop the download process without scanning it for distructive script and the script has to be part of the virus protection software exclusion program before it can be stop or identified as harmful.
The best method is to stick to known sites that are safe or to design a device to clamp the internet connection device and limit traffic to a specified current, voltage, and frequency level and to block all non expected return pings and searches for open ports from non requested third party sites.
Sometimes it is not the uses fault.
