agreed, but still problematic
which is different than what mentioned. On that note I will agree with (and set up mail systems to only) accepting mail from servers that match the backtrace against the domain name advertised in the smtp conversation. To make it successful would require global compliance on this matter, or again we are back to maintaining RBLs of bad relays, forwarders, etc... and denying legitimate relayed mail.

Bottom line is we are talking a change in SMTP to affect any real control, something which isn't likely to happen likely or soon (IPv6 anyone)
