Well I only have one problem with this. The same standard is not applied to all purchases. Why is software so different in most people's mind. If you buy a car and it doesn't work well what happens you live with it. Software like any other purchase should be treated the same.

First thing I learned after buying my first car the real meaning of the words caveat emptor for those not versed in latin "Let the buyer Beware". You choose to by Microsoft products and consumers continue to use them so is it really there problem. They have noted that there product has limitations as far as security and they have already made those choices way before release and it comes down to user friendlyness and security.

So the mess about virus/trojans/malware spam and all of the like are problems that are going to be left up to the user to deal with and if they don't deal with it on a one to one level I guess they are constantly reinstalling windows. As for you and me getting it I have never had a major virus take down any of my system or cause me a problem so I don't see it as a problem because I have taken procautions to protect myself and my systems.
