They see the problems they incur as technology...
... problems, yes. But if a widespread view is factually incorrect, the existence of the widespread view IS the social problem.

Like predators trailing a migrating herd, the malware producers are following people who take no responsibility to new devices.

These are not the "script kiddies"; these are career device hijackers. Their motives are not emotional, and they don't require an anti-Microsoft zealot to write exploits for them. They are working hard and well for money.
Don't expect them to be balked by security arrangements. They aren't concerned about technology. Their best resource is their prey's aversion to technology.

So, by tolerating or even encouraging the idea that migrating is a solution, you're encouraging the real problem.
I'd say leave them on Windows, where the technology is friendly to them. But it's possible to differ reasonably on that.

But definitely:
Don't exaggerate security problems.
Don't give them the idea the software always causes those problems.
Don't encourage the idea they can escape the problem without a change in behavior.
and
Don't make the necessary steps to protect themselves seem major or hugely inconvenient.

It may not be possible to change their attitude toward computers. But if you can get them to think about oil changing as the best comparison, it might be possible to make progress.
