Like I've said before, and flamed for saying, financial accountability for damages, labeling products as not fully tested and possibly dangerous, and forcing the software industry to follow the same rules every other industry has to follow is the only approach. Hit them in the pocket book, just as their products do to the consumer, since money is the only thing they care about.
The final solution can be debated forever. But look around, things can't continue the way they are. And anyone who thinks there is no problem has to be blind.
