Can't have it both ways

"I cannot in good conscience cheer for MS. I find it difficult to root for any company that is leveraging it's own short comings into an opportunity to improve it's profits and cement it's market position."

First of all, AV and anti-spyware companies are technically parasites--they profit from the shortcomings of Windows. They profit from the misery of millions.

If Windows becomes more secure (by, for example having best of breed antispyware/AV) then it will certainly improve MS profits because (even more) people will buy it than do now.

If you mean that MS is trying to cement their position in the AV/antispyware market, then I submit that A) the market should never have existed in the first place and B) destroying this particular market is a Good Thing(tm).

After all, how's the competitive landscape for Linux or OS/X AV/antispyware?
