Rivals should be afraid
" it has historically been hard to predict how the company's
dominance of the desktop operating system market can
influence consumers to buy other products. Microsoft has
previously utilized its position to package Web browsing
and media player software with Windows at no additional
cost. "

Hard to predict? What was the result of bundling free IE for
Netscape and WMP for Real? Seems pretty clear to me.

The free MS spyware product will dominate the market for
spyware apps within 12 months of release. If MS can do a
free or low cost anti-virus it'll dominate that market as well.

This is the power of the MS's desktop monopoly and the
reason it receives the anti-trust attention it does.

"...the consensus among Microsoft's newest rivals was that
the learning process would take years, rather than months."

Having the full source code to the OS, IE and Office makes
the development of an antivirus product to secure the
enterprise infinitely easier for MS than their competitors.

Good luck guys.
