Symantec: Who's afraid of Microsoft?

Why do we have to pay for MS fault?: I don't understand why do we have to pay to those anti-virus companies. Isn't it supposed to be provided by Microsoft as part of OS, since it is part of Microsoft's shoddy workmanship? For example, if you have problems with your car due to faulty manufacturing, your manufacture will fix it at their cost.
