Surely you can't be that naive. Everything
Microsoft does has profit motive behind it. They are a corporation and that is what corporations do. Besides the plan to run other spyware removal companies out of business, Microsoft is giving away the software in an effort to reduce the amount of trash which so easily takes over a Windows PC. Companies, countries, and individuals are looking for alternatives and this is an attempt by MS to show their software can be protected and thereby limiting the damages by trying to hold onto customers.

Corporations, and not just Microsoft, don't do anything unless it benefits them. This has nothing to do with the user per se. This is purely a marketing ploy and also an attempt to keep their software from being totally ran over.

It seems odd thought that even after the mighty SP2, security issues abound and patches are still being issued with amazing frequency. When are they going to FIX their software instead of patching and trying to build a wall around it? Their currrent approach is obviously not working.
