Too many IT service providers canned
the real technical oriented employees to use cheaper labor. Well, they are getting what they paid for.

After nigh on 13 years in the IT industry, I have found that only about 1 in 10 IT techs are actually qualified to do the job. And I don't mean some worthless certificate from Microsoft or even a sheepskin from a four year university. I'm talking about being able to actually understand and implement today's technology without causing eventual disaster.

Many things make a tech qualified, too many to discuss here. But two points, understanding the system as a whole instead of some pointed portion learned to pass an exam, and understanding the IT user and what makes him/her tick, are the two criteria lacking the most.

There are a lot of so-called techs that need to find work elsewhere. This is why issues like the one in this article are becoming more and more plentiful! As cheap unqualified labor becomes less available, maybe qualified techs can get back to earning what they deserve.
