I agree with this. The only draw to hacking Microsoft-equipped machines is its userbase. Now that Linux is drawing some of the limelight, it is also drawing its share of attacks.

But the ease with which a Microsoft-based system can be violated is what give Microsoft such a bad rap. If the features of IE and OE/OL were eliminated, some people might complain. But more would be thankful, I think, that the threat of being attacked just by opening an email is no longer an issue.

I think MS have taken steps to improve sercurity overall (offering NT-like user accounts in home systems, turning off many unneeded services by default), but they seem to be moving too slowly, instead apparently more concerned with their bottom line and public appearance. Gates isn't running for office, I don't know why he's making promisses he can't or won't keep and announcing goals he can't or won't reach on time.
