Price of visibility and growing user base
fortunately Linux is uniquely poised to deal with and fend off attackers due to peer review and quality controls. Unfortunately, it was positioned as a political tool as much as a rally for software freedom, so in many respects, its taken on a political parties' pains, attacks on its "character", attacks on its "characters" or proponents, and attacks on its codebase and even repositories. But again, its in a good place to defend itself, come out tougher, and prove its viability. Bad ppl will do bad things, even to good software, and that should be condoned, even if you hate the company/code.
